SBSC Alumni Julian Araujo: LA Galaxy Defender & Humanitarian of the Year!!

LOS ANGELES (Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020) – The LA Galaxy have announced the recipients of the club’s 2020 team awards following the conclusion of the 2020 MLS Regular Season. Forward Cristian Pavón was named the 2020 LA Galaxy Player of the Year, presented by Herbalife Nutrition, in addition to earning Golden Boot honors. Defender Julian Araujo was named LA Galaxy Defender of the year and LA Galaxy Humanitarian of the Year.

For LA Galaxy II, forward Augustine Williams was named Player of the Year in addition to earning Golden Boot honors. Mauricio Cuevas was named Defender of the Year and defender Jalen Neal was named Los Dos Humanitarian of the Year.

In the Academy ranks, midfielder Alex Alvarado was named the LA Galaxy Academy Player of the Year.

LA GALAXY 2020 TEAM AWARDS

LA Galaxy Player of the Year, presented by Herbalife Nutrition: Cristian Pavón – Forward

LA Galaxy forward Cristian Pavon started in all 22 matches this season and finished with 10 goals and seven assists, including two game-winning goals and two game-winning assists, all of which led the club this year. Pavon has tallied 13 goals and 15 assists in 33 total MLS matches since joining the club last season on loan. 

LA Galaxy Defender of the Year: Julian Araujo – Defender

LA Galaxy Academy Product Julian Araujo enjoyed a breakout season for the LA Galaxy, starting in 17 appearances this year. In addition to his contribution along the backline, Araujo also notched a goal and three assists, including two game-winning assists.

LA Galaxy Humanitarian of the Year: Julian Araujo – Defender

In addition to a breakout season on the field, LA Galaxy defender Julian Araujo has stepped off of it to become one of the leading athletes in the Los Angeles community at just 19 years old. A native of Lompoc, California, the teenager has worked extensively to give back to farm workers from his local community.

Araujo helped provide meals to farm workers in Lompoc while providing each with a personal note this summer. The LA Galaxy defender also made a donation and helped raise thousands of dollars for the United Farmworkers Foundation (UFWF), the charitable arm of the United Farmworkers union created by famed labor leader Cesar Chavez.

In addition to his work with the UFWF and supporting his Lompoc community, Araujo has been one of the most consistent players to volunteer with the LA Galaxy Foundation this season. He has volunteered at various food drives and community outreach events during the COVID-19 pandemic. Araujo has also worked closely to help give back to the community while supporting the East Side Riders Bike Club in Watts. Additionally, he was on site to help feed the community during a mural unveiling of LA Galaxy and USMNT legend Cobi Jones.

Golden Boot: Cristian Pavón – Forward

Pavon led the LA Galaxy this season in goals with 10 on the season. Sebastian Lletget finished second this year with six goals.

LA GALAXY II

LA Galaxy II Player of the Year: Augustine Williams – Forward

Williams, who was named to the USL All-League First Team, had a breakout campaign to help lead Los Dos into the USL Championship Playoffs for a second consecutive year as he recorded 13 goals and two assists to finish second in the race for the Championship’s Golden Boot. Williams played a key role down the stretch for the Galaxy II, scoring seven goals in the side’s final seven games of the regular season. 

LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year: Mauricio Cuevas – Defender

LA Galaxy Academy Product Mauricio Cuevas made 17 starts for Los Dos in the USL Championship while earning a reputation as one of the best free-kick takers in the league with four direct free-kick goals. Cuevas’ standout player and versatility along the backline made him one of the most consistent players for Galaxy II this season. 

LA Galaxy II Humanitarian of the Year: Jalen Neal – Defender

Neal has been consistent in his support of the community alongside the LA Galaxy Foundation. He most recently spent time volunteering at Leapwood Avenue Elementary School in Carson alongside the Garden School Foundation program, which provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental awareness, and community health.

Golden Boot: Augustine Williams

Williams led LA Galaxy II with 13 goals this season. Jonathan Perez and Mauricio Cuevas tied for second place with four goals each.

LA GALAXY ACADEMY

Academy Player of the Year: Alejandro Alvarado Jr. – Midfielder

This season, Alejandro Jr. excelled for LA Galaxy II in the USL Championship, making 13 appearances and eight starts while scoring one goal after making his professional debut this year. The 17-year-old Academy product has played for U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19 squads throughout his career with the LA Galaxy Academy, scoring 21 goals. He has started over 80 matches in the U.S. Developmental Academy.

LA GALAXY SEASON TICKET MEMBER

LA Galaxy Season Ticket Member of the Year: Christian Matheus Lorenzo

Lorenzo has been a loyal Season Ticket Member with the Galaxians since 2008. Since then, he has passionately supported the LA Galaxy each season and become a leader in the Supporter Group, regularly helping organize drums, tifo and chants. In recent years, he has also traveled frequently to away matches to help organize road support. Lorenzo has earned the respect and admiration of innumerous LA Galaxy supporters and is celebrated by the club this year as the 2020 LA Galaxy Season Ticket Member of the Year.
